DIRECTOR OF CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAMS ADMINISTRATION

  • This leadership position will work collaboratively with other Directors in the Health and Nutrition Services Division to maximize participant access to nutrition, ensure meal service programs meet or exceed federal requirements, and deliver courteous, helpful customer service with a service-minded approach.
  • The position will be responsible for leading an action-oriented team that is highly knowledgeable of all aspects of child nutrition programs and related initiatives (e.g. National School Lunch Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program, Afterschool Care Snack Program, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, and Farm to School). The team will leverage technology, data, and apply regulatory information to process recurring and new requests from existing and potential program operators. The supervisor will ensure the team is equipped and developed to provide technical assistance for maximizing quality entities and increasing their ability to operate successfully.

Job Duties:
  • Supervise, direct, and develop a team knowledgeable on all aspects of child nutrition programs with the primary functions tied to customer interactions for program administration, program application approvals, renewals and related technical assistance
  • Develop strategies and implement strategic objectives that ensure exceptional customer service is provided to all and that HNS is viewed as a trusted source for guidance and administration of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Child Nutrition Programs.
  • Lead the team to take actions based on the standards and customer service model established by agency leadership
  • Maximizes the usage of technology systems by analyzing process efficiencies; ensure electronic files are managed for compliance with storage and retention and will identify opportunities to enhance the electronic application process
  • Ensure required entity records and documents are retained electronically in accordance with federal and state regulations
  • Approve required agreements and contracts between the state agency and entities, tracks process information, and leverages data to perform analytics of team effectiveness
  • Oversee and direct daily work activities through writing standard operating procedures and position descriptions for the team
  • Develop and facilitate staff meetings, conduct regular one-on-one meetings, provide coaching, mentoring, and discipline as necessary
  • Administer performance evaluations
  • Manage schedules and leave requests
  • Maintain tools to track team activity and outcomes related to established performance indicators and program compliance
  • Demonstrate collaboration among other HNS teams through awareness and management of team members’ participation within shared platforms, workgroups, data, goals, and supporting grant activities
  • Apply extensive knowledge and expertise with the CNPs to recognize gaps and communicate possible areas of connection
  • In-state and out-of-state travel is required for this position

Preference will be given to those applicants with work experience in schools or child nutrition or health programs or other federal programs

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).

Retirement:

You will be required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) upon your 27th week of employment, subject to waiting period. On or shortly after, your first day of employment you will be provided with enrollment instructions and effective date.
