Medical Assistant Extern

As a Medical Assistant/Allied Health program student extern, you will observe and collaborate with an experienced KMHS employee to gain knowledge and perform the tasks necessary to meet the goals identified for the externship or practicum.

Primary Responsibilities
:
  • Observe and collaborate to develop a training plan and timeline for practical application of skills learned. These may include client interactions, obtaining vital signs, drawing blood for analysis, use of the electronic medical record, phone skills, data entry or analysis, or other tasks associated with the revenue cycle at KMHS.

  • Participate in administrative activities as time allows and the need arises, including meetings with the assigned team or other KMHS teams.
  • Consistently adhere to medical documentation standards – which includes creating adequate medical documentation that is signed and billed within 24 hours of the patient visit/interaction.
  • Develop and adhere to a work schedule that is agreeable to KMHS and the sponsoring educational program
  • Observe all HIPAA requirements and provide care utilizing trauma informed methods.
  • Accept feedback and guidance from the experienced KMHS staff as assigned.
  • Be present when scheduled, and respond to all communication with the training team promptly.
  • Interact with all clients, families and KMHS staff in a professional and respectful manner.


NOTE
: All applicants must work with the identified KMHS leadership to establish details of the externship/practicum prior to acceptance.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Active enrollment and sponsorship by contracted college or university

EXPERIENCE: No experience required
