Senator Merkley seeks a Policy Advisor to focus on foreign policy, defense and veterans issues. The Senator is an active member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations. Qualified candidates must have extensive experience in the foreign policy field. Expertise in nonproliferation, human rights, humanitarian/refugee issues and/or geographic expertise in East and South Asia is preferred.
Responsibilities include managing the Senator’s foreign policy team, preparing committee hearing briefing materials and other memos; staffing the Senator at hearings, meetings, and other events; and representing the Senator with constituents, federal agencies, and foreign officials. Qualified candidates should be entrepreneurial and thrive in a fast-paced and highly collaborative team-oriented environment.
