Definition

This position is 20 hours per week and has a regular schedule working at all 3 libraries. Under direct supervision, to properly shelve and locate library materials; deliver library materials via the library vehicle; move tables, chairs, and equipment; and perform related work as required.

Essential Functions

Accurately shelves library materials, retrieves, and checks in library materials from inside the library and from outside book drops; locates and processes items on hold; moves and sets up tables, chairs, and equipment for programs and meetings; backs up co-workers at service desks; delivers books and other materials to library branches; travels to different library branches in the performance of assigned duties; serves on committees as needed; drives on City business.

Minimum Qualifications

Employment Standards:

Knowledge of spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Skill in interacting and communicating tactfully and effectively with a diverse population; operating modern computers and related software. Ability to work in a diverse environment as a team member; follow oral and written directions; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public; work independently when performing essential functions effectively perform tasks requiring attention to detail; work a schedule that includes weekends and after hours.

Education/Training: High school graduation or equivalent.

Special Conditions & Requirements: The physical ability to perform essential functions of the classification, which include the ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, bend in all directions, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs and ladders, and reach above shoulder height.

License & Certificates: A valid California Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent at time of appointment. All required licenses and certificates must be maintained throughout employment in this classification.
